RESORT AND HOSPITALITY DESIGN


THE BROADMOOR, Colorado Springs, CO

Retail Plaza, summer 2006

Led the design of the exterior and interior of seven new and distinct retail stores for the historic five-star resort property.  An exterior grand staircase incorporates a fountain that flows along its length.


Outdoor Pool, spring 2001

Developed building and landscape design for new 10,000 square-foot zero edge pool incorporating a restaurant, bar, siting, cabanas, locker facilities, baby pool, and slides.


Function Terrace and North End of Lake, spring 2001

Guided landscape, hardscape and lighting design to integrate new construction along the entire north end of the lake into the larger vision for the property. 


Cheyenne Lodge, fall 2000

Created vision and schematic design for renovation of the existing club house to accommodate large gatherings with a strong outdoor element.  Reconfigured drive and entry sequence to better integrate building with the mountain range to the west and city views to the east.


Mountain View Pavilion, spring 2000

Created a pavilion and courtyard with an Italian artisan aesthetic to compliment the architecture of the original hotel and answer the need for covered outdoor function space.  Carefully sited to block the adjacent parking while framing the views to the mountains.


West Lobby, spring 2000

Repositioned the West Lobby to the “five-star” standards of the hotel. Lobby amenities were completely renovated including: West Lobby Bar, the West Shop, Café Julie, award-winning Charles Court Restaurant, new signature restrooms, and adjacent meeting rooms. The connection between indoors and outside was enhanced with a new ground level façade, terraces, and landscaping.


Charles Court, spring 2000

Designed the renovation of the award-winning Charles Court Restaurant adding a covered outside dining area with custom gas lantern heaters.


South Tower Conference Rooms, fall 1999

Designed the needed conference and banquet rooms using under-utilized retail space. In addition, recreated façade of building to better integrate indoors and outside, provide human scale, and compliment the larger vision and esthetics of the property.


Retail at Main, summer 1998

Managed the design and on site construction for four retail shops in the historic Main Building at the Broadmoor Hotel.  Completed the aggressive schedule, 14 weeks from concept to completion, both on schedule and on budget.


Salon at the Spa, winter 1998

Using typology of a courtyard villa, designed the bright and airy full service salon in the space confined between two buildings over a loading dock.


GATEWAY CANYONS RESORT, Gateway, CO

Resort Master Plan, 2009

Managed the design team to develop a Master Plan for a luxury resort in the sandstone buttes of western Colorado.


PEACOCK HOTEL AND SPA, Greenville, SC

Hotel and Spa, 2008

Managed and led the design process for a new urban boutique hotel and spa.


SURREY HOTEL, New York, NY

Spa, 2008

Lead designers for a unique innovative luxury spa in a small urban hotel.


TUCKER’S POINT, Bermuda

Spa, 2007

Lead designers for the schematic design for this unique spa that integrated a courtyard building with a spa garden.


HOTEL HERSHEY, Hershey, PA

Hotel Hershey Recreation Area, 2007

Conceptualized the master plan and design for a large 15-acre development including pools, cottages, recreation fields, game courts, and a new road.


Hershey Country Club Sports Complex, spring 2006

Developed the concept and managed the design and engineering team for the 8,000 square foot pool, retail store, bath houses, and the surrounding tennis facilities.


Coeur d’Alene Resort, Coeur d’Alene, ID

Coeur d’Alene Spa and Salon, spring 2006

Developed the concept and managed the design process through construction for a signature 18,000 square foot spa in the the luxury four-diamond resort. The design incorporated renovation with new construction.


The Greenbrier, White Sulphur Springs, WV

Outdoor Pool, spring 2002

Developed the concept for a mountain spring outdoor pool to compliment this historical luxury resort property.


KINGSMILL RESORT, Williamsburg, VA

Golf Club House, summer 1997

Designed and administered on-site construction of the renovation of the Golf Club House in this luxury four-diamond resort.


Wigwam Resort, Litchfield Park, AZ

Spa, summer 1997

Conceptualized a unique courtyard spa integrating into the southwest esthetic of this historic luxury resort.


DEL SOL CAFE, Lewisburg, WV

Restaurant and Bar Renovation, summer 1997

Designed a Restaurant and Bar combining an historic gas station and adjacent retail space.  An outside area expands the seating and brings energy to the street.


Mission Point Resort, Mackinac Island, MI

Spa, summer 1996

Created a Master Plan based on the extensive research and careful consideration of the historical property and the island.



EDUCATIONAL AND RESIDENTIAL


MUSEUM OF SCIENCE AND INDUSTRY, Chicago, IL

Networld Exhibit, Summer 1997

Designed and managed the fabrication of this permanent exhibit incorporating the latest computer technology.


National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS), Baja, Mexico

Commendation, Boston Society of Architects, Sustainable Design Awards, 1995

Designed the two acre master plan and 35,000 sq ft of specific buildings including: community house, library, offices, bathhouse, equipment storage, and boat storage. The design focuses on issues of sustainability, education and building with local construction talent, methods, and materials.


Anderson Wilson Residence, Lander, WY

Residence, winter 2009

Designed a new addition and renovation of the existing log home to integrate the house further with the surrounding landscape of the 450 acre ranch in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Renewable energy systems are incorporated including passive solar, high efficiency wood stoves, and solar hot water.


Kallgren Van Barselaar Residence, Lander, WY

Residence, spring 2005

Designed the home of two Branch Directors for the National Outdoor Leadership School. The home reflects the lifestyle and desires of the owners establishing a strong connection between inside and out with an outside space associated with each room. Renewable energy systems are incorporated including; passive solar, solar hot water, and photovoltaic panels.

The Spa at Tucker’s Point Resort, Bermuda

The SilverTAG shower is computer controlled to quickly and accurately change the water temperature and pressure from its eighteen showerheads.  From the touch screen, one can chose from several sequences designed by spa specialists for relaxation, invigoration, and to increase circulation. Custom sequences can be created and saved for daily use.

The ft Tub is a therapeutic soaking tub which brings the qualities of a natural hot spring into a spa or residential environment. Continual pure warm water flows onto your shoulders, relaxes your body, and vanishes at your feet.
